The Fijian Elections Office (FEO) has identified 7912 voters reported deceased and has had them removed from the voter list.

Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem said the removal followed verification with village headmen, district advisory councillors and through secondary verification from the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages.

He said as of June 30, the number of voters stands at 686,076.

Mr Saneem said 123,889 voters continued to hold on to their green coloured voter cards making up approximately 18.06 per cent of the entire list of voters.

“FEO is now on the third day of the Nationwide Voter Registration Drive and as at last night, we have recorded 619 new registrations and in total we have served 3282 voters who are mostly from the rural areas of Fiji,” he said.

And in a bid to generate greater interest, the FEO has announced a grand bonanza of $10,000 for every voter that participates in the current registration drive.

“A total of 100 lucky voters will win $100 at the end of the drive.

“So, while you upgrade to the latest voter card, you also go into the draw for some extra cash,” Mr Saneem said.
