Fijian athlete Yeshnil Karan failed to finish his men’s 5000 metres event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in England.
Up against the best in the Commonwealth and some of the best in the world, fatigue got the better of the young Fijian as he had to stop in the middle of the tough race.
This was a sad ending to Fiji’s campaign. Team Fiji general manager Ajay Ballu said there was a lot to learn for the athletes.
“There are so many young athletes who represented us at the games this year. This is a good sign. Come the next games these athletes will only get better,” Ballu said.
“Judo, triathlon, table tennis, athletics, swimming, we had some students competing for us. Expect them to learn from this experience and come out stronger in the future.” Ballu said Karan was a strong athlete.
“He ran a grand race in the 1500m. Today he started well as well but the atmosphere and the pace of the race got to him.
“We wish him all the best in his upcoming events as we know he is a medal prospect for the future.”
There are no competitions for Team Fiji tomorrow as they will now wait for the closing ceremony at Alexandra Stadium before leaving for home tomorrow, Tuesday.
